Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way. – Jane Austen
My early year are probably less interesting to you as they mostly consisted of things young people do: being cute in toddler pantsuits, playing with worms, creating artistic masterpieces out of newspaper and glue or clay and shuffling between homes.
My middle years are even less interesting. (And let’s not talk about my 20s.) Years back, I attended a private university to pursue a BA in print journalism and literature. I followed that up at a four-year interdisciplinary liberal arts college in the PNW where I earned a degree in Lib Arts, focusing my research and papers in civil and human rights, juvenile and social justice, and consciousness studies (meditation and its effects in psychology).
I am passionate about yoga and meditation, and I teach yoga in my free time (certified RYT-200). I continue to study and learn the depths of the practice and way of life as well as the opportunity to share with others my passion and joy for the practice. I also practice and find great joy in partner yoga, acro-yoga, writing, learning to cook for a gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian diet, kayaking, boulder climbing, Scrabble and playing around with haiku. I recently completed a two-year term on the Board of Directors for Transitional Resources, a licensed mental health center and residential program located in West Seattle. I enjoy other volunteer work as well.
Here, you will find posts about my journey through yoga and other lessons I’m learning in life. I have been writing for 20 years, and writing online for eight years. I started this blog in 2008 at the end of a difficult, four-year relationship that, by then, had rendered us both entirely unhealthy. I wanted to give back to myself, reflect, start over and move on. I’ve since documented a variety of life-changing events, big and small. I work full-time in academics and study law full-time. I lead a monthly book group. And I am grateful to call home the Fremont district of Seattle, Washington.
Welcome.
